Alex Quetzali is a Mexican-American artist originally from the PNW, now based in New York after welcoming her firstborn in 2025. She lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, her daughter, her cat Milah and her dog Willow.
Her passions include archiving, collecting, and creating in many different forms, and especially converged in the art of photography. Her work is rooted in preservation of her own memories, and of the people who invite her into theirs.
She's interested in the version of people that emerges when they forget they're being watched. In the gestures, glances, and quiet exchanges that reveal how we love, gather, and care for one another. Her photographs are less about perfect moments than they are about preserving the ones that might otherwise be forgotten.
Ask her about her favorite photograph and she won't mention one of her own. She'll describe a picture of herself and her younger brother running barefoot through their neighborhood as children, her leading the way as he trails along closely behind. Nothing remarkable is happening. To her, it represents the essence of her childhood and the beginning of a lifelong friendship with her brother.
Her work is driven by observation, curiosity, and a belief that paying attention is a creative act in itself. She believes photographs become more meaningful with time. Not because they are rare, but because they quietly preserve versions of people that no longer exist.
When asked what she offers her clients, she doesn't start with details about coverage or deliverables. To her, it’s about trusting perspectives, about paying attention and especially about noticing what often goes unseen. Her mission is for her work to reflect that.
